These visionary leaders made monumental contributions to diabetes care and research, laying the foundation for the development of this field in India. M. M. S. Ahuja

(1929 - 1998)

Former Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism and Dean All India Institute of Medical Sciences

He played key role in founding 'Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India' in 1972] and 'Hormone Foundation, India.' He was the founding editor of International Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries.

He was Chief editor of medical publication series on "Progress in Medicine". They are unique and monumental documentations of scientific work done in India on problems of Indian Medicine.

Awards

  • He was awarded the prestigious B. C. Roy Award for Medical Research in 1982.
  • Government of India awarded Padma Shri in 1991.

Prof J S Bajaj

(1936 - 2019)

Prof J S Bajaj was a member (health) of the Planning Commission with the rank of Minister of state in 1991-98. He joined the AIIMS faculty in 1966 and in 1979 was appointed professor and head of medicine. He was appointed honorary physician to the President of India during 1977-1982 and again from 1987 to 1992. He was also consultant physician to the Prime minister from 1991 to 1996. He specializes in endocrinology and was honoured by the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden when, at the time of its 175th anniversary celebration in 1985, Doctorate in Medicine was conferred upon him. He was a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London as well as of Edinburgh, and of the National Academy of Medical Sciences. He is also a founder fellow of the Indian College of Physicians.

Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award, for his outstanding contribution to the medical sciences and research, and his efforts to improve the healthcare delivery system

ABOUT OUR RECENTLY HELD SYMPOSIUM

• The 12th Ahuja Bajaj Symposium, held on August 3rd and 4th, 2024, at The Grand, New Delhi, was organized by Fortis CDOC and the NDOC Foundation. The event was a resounding success, attracting over 400 enthusiastic participants.

Dr Misra is Chairman, Fortis-CDOC Center of Excellence for Diabetes, Metabolic Diseases, and Endocrinology, New Delhi, and Director, National Diabetes, Obesity and Cholesterol Foundation, and Diabetes Foundation (India).
Prof. Misra has extensive academic experiences in universities overseas. Prof. Misra has more than 45 years of experience in teaching, service, research, and community health intervention programs and has published more than 375 scientific papers/chapters in the National and International journals and books. Dr Misra has received numerous awards and 31 named orations. He has been awarded the highest award for medicine in India Dr BC Roy award (2006) and India’s prestigious National Honor, Padma Shree (2007).
He is author of bestselling books “Diabetes with Delight” and “Diabetes ke Saath Khushaal Jeevan” (Bloomsbury).
